A wall.
A perimeter.
And a winding path to a sequestered space surrounded by that wall.
At the top of the wall a walk.
Walk atop the perimeter wall.
The chance to look down on an interior landscape.
The chance to look out, to look away.
To and from.
Forward and back.
Within the wall, below the walk, trees surround, scattered seats, and a green hillside.
Slopes to a stream.
Wander, wonder.
At the foot of the hillside a stream, a tributary of a large river, surrounds an island.
The water is clear, clean, and at the bottom, pieces of formed concrete just below the blue surface.
Concrete pieces.
The stream bottom.
Speakers placed in the concrete send music to the hillside, to the river, to the island.
Music music.
The island itself.
A perfect square.
A concrete base.
Bridges and a perimeter island walk.
Chairs to sit.
And places to stand.
Look.
To the surrounding space, hillside, stream, and the river beyond, and the homes beyond the river.
Alone or in groups.
Choices.
Where to stand?
Where to sit?
What to think?
And wonder.
And wander.
With mind and feet.
Tables too.
For lap tops.
For books.
For leaving gifts.
Remembrances of the visit.
Anticipating the next one.
A venue for silence.
For conversation.
For singing.
One by one.
In groups.
Memories.
Discoveries.
Of time and the river.
